My father and mother were of New England origin, both being born in New York. They believed in a democratic form of government. They were Baptists and very devout in their veins.
My Grandfather Alldrige Allen was a cousin of Ethan Allen of Revolutionary fame. Their occupation was farming and millwrights - owning their own farms and timber land.
My mother's father was born in New York - her grandfather was born in America in 1750. Her mother came from Germany when a child in 1798, locating in New York. She married Thomas Runsey, a widower with one small daughter. She reared a family of 12 children - 9 daughters and 3 sons, the oldest lived to the age of 95 years. She was a Methodist in faith. She lived to the age of 75 years.
My father John Allen came to Utah from Ohio 1862, located in Bountiful until 1872, when he moved to Woodruff, Utah and helped in pioneering that valley. He held many offices of trust - politically and religiously engaged in farming. In 1882 he moved to Garden City, Utah, where he lived until 1900, when he moved to Thermopolis, Wyo., where he died in 1904, and was buried at Otto, Wyo.
My mother Lorinda Runsey was born in New York in 1834, was a Methodist in faith. She acquired a collegiate education, also was an excellent nurse. She taught school and cared for an invalid sister for 12 years. She joined the L.D.S. faith in 1868 with her husband and labored in the R.S. and P.A. all the latter part of her life, was a teacher 20 years and sec'y of the R.S. for ten years, was Counsellor [sic] and president of the P.A. until her health failed her. She was charitable, refined and gentle, ministering to the afflicted and prepared many dead for burial, was well beloved by all, died Nov [?] 1st, 1897.
I was born in Bountiful in 1865. Married J.D. Bryson, 1881, have had a family of nine children, have spent my life [ ] for in the work of the Lord, have held office in all of the organizations, except the P.A., acquired a good education, taught school, have been Counsellor and Pres. in Y.L.M.I.A., work also in the R.S., which office I now hold. My aspirations were to be a mother and labor as my mother did for the betterment of humanity.
