Historical Sketch of Esther Stella Clay

I was born in Porterville, Morgan County, Utah on July 14th, 1898, at the home of my grandfather, Thomas Phillips, but was blessed here in Bountiful by Patriarch John Kynaston. My parents were both born in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so like Nephi of old, I can say I was born of goodly parents, for I was born through a long lineage of the Priesthood, there being two generations on my father's side and three on my mother's.

When quite young my health was not good, so my parents sent me to stay with my grandparents on the farm in Porterville, where I spent most of my time until the death of my grandmother in 1907. In May 1915, I graduated from the eighth grade in the Stoker School, and last fall entered the Davis County High School, but was forced to quit on account of poor health.

In October of 1913, I was called to be a member of the Bountiful [1?] Ward Choir, and in January of 1916 was appointed secretary of the same. Was a member of the choir and also the girls chorus in the Davis County musical contest, being in the winning side in both cases, William Hardy being our choir leader.

Have always attended Sunday School ever since I was old enough to do so. At the age of 13, I became a member of the Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Association, and on the seventh of March 1916, I joined the Relief Society.

Have had some very severe cases of sickness, but with the blessing of my Heavenly Father, through the administration of His servants, I have always been restored to health.

Am trying to do my duty and live the gospel to the best of my understanding.

Baptized 4 Nov 1906 at Bountiful Utah by William Gierisch into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Confirmed 4 November [1906] by Thomas Howard

1916: Called as Religion Class teacher
