My ancestors as far back as I have any knowledge of, were all of English decent and belonged to the Church of England. My father and his people were calico printers by trade and were all very hard working people. Mi father was the only one of his family that joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was converted by the Elders and by reading their tracts.
My mother worked in a factory weaving cloth and was converted to the gospel the same time as my father, as they did not join the church until after they were married. My parents did not attend any schools, the only education that they were able to get was around the fireside.
My parents left England in 1852 and came to America. Three years later I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, living there until I was seven years old. We then journeyed to Utah, arriving there in October 1862. While crossing the plains with ox teams, we had a very hard trip, walking part of the way.
After arriving in Utah, we settled in Bountiful, where I have resided ever since. I was educated in the public schools, going about three months out of the year. I was baptized into the Mormon Church in 1868 by Brother John Stoker and confirmed by Wm. H. Lee the same day.
The only traveling that I have ever done was a five-week visit to California and Arizona. I have always lived in Bountiful and laboring in the work of the Lord has influenced my life most and my greatest aspiration of childhood was to become a wife and mother.
I am the mother of fourteen children, five boys and nine girls, eight of which are living. I have tried to teach them the gospel and my work is now trying to do temple work for the dead.
