Born: 2 September 1865 at Bountiful, Utah
Father: John Evans
Mother: Mary Ellison Evans
James Dinwoody Evans was the son of John and Mary Ellison Evans and was born September 2, 1865 in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, in a little log and adobe house situated one block west and three blocks north of the East Bountiful Tabernacle, which was in the center of the town. The house is in the corner of the northwest corner of the block. On the north or front of the house is a large patch of oak brush. There is a large creek that runs through the northeast part of the lot. There are good Mormon families around the home.
He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints September 4, 1873 by Henry Rampton and confirmed the same day by Samuel Bryson. He attended the private school taught by Caroline Farnam and later attended the district school.
When fourteen years of age, his father died, leaving his mother with eight small children. James, being the fifth child, had to work and help his mother support the younger children.
At the age of sixteen years, he went to Farmington to work on the farm for Bishop Secrest. Two years later he went to Salt Lake City to work as delivery boy for Taylor-Romney Lumber Co and Salt Lake Building Co. After working in Salt Lake City for about ten or twelve years, he returned to his home in Bountiful and worked on the farm. After all his brothers and sisters were married and he being the only one who didn't marry, remained at home and took care of his mother, he being her only support. James worked as a Fast Gatherer in East Bountiful for fifteen years and as a Ward Teacher for two years.
On December 6, 1915, his mother died and James went to live with his sister Elizaberth E. Wood, where he is living at the present time. He is still engaged in the farming business.
