Bountiful City Youth Council's Service at Relay for Life
By Haley Ann Rodgers

At 5:30pm on June 26th on Viewmont High School’s running track many people were setting up for South Davis County’s Relay for Life, including the Bountiful City Youth Council. This Youth Council was one among many teams that was involved in this relay to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. Each year they sponsor the carnival part of this relay in South Davis County. This year they provided face painting, a bean bag toss, a fishing pond, and helped run the Bounce House. The relay was cut short this time because of a strong rain storm, but the Bountiful City Youth Council helped raise as much money as possible while making many children smile through face paint and simple games. Once the storm started up the council took down their equipment, and then most of the council continued to stay out in the rain and wind to help other groups who needed more hands. The Bountiful City Youth Council loves Relay for Life; thrilled to be able to help raise money in hopes to find a cure for cancer, and create fun for so many kids. They also enjoy this particular relay because they have such a great time staying up all night with everyone to walk the track in remembrance of cancer victims, play games, participate in ceremonies, and bond as a council, as their service is put toward a wonderful cause.

Youth Council Beautifying Project
By Haley Rodgers

The Grist Mill on Orchard Drive is a major historical site of Bountiful. During Bountiful's Handcart Days tours are given that go through all the historical sites of the city. The Grist Mill was overgrown, with long grass, bushes, and weeds, plus lots of littered garbage in the forested area behind the mill. The Bountiful City Youth Council as a group cleaned up this area very nicely on July 8th to help the city prepare for the tour. About eighteen members of the council gathered at the mill at 5pm, and got to work. They cut the grass, weed wacked, cut vines and bushes back, picked up broken glass and trash, racked, and swept the area. The Youth Council had such a grand time doing this service; it was full of hard work, but surely full of laughter and smiles as well. The Grist Mill is now ready for the tour, displaying its' history in a beautiful manner; thanks to the Bountiful City Youth Council.
