Message From Chief Tom Ross
I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Police Chief of Bountiful City, the finest city in Utah. I am a twenty-year veteran of Bountiful Police Department and am deeply committed to serving this community. Ensuring the safety and security of citizens is the foremost concern and ultimate duty of this police department. As a new Chief, I have many specific objectives that will help Bountiful Police Department accomplish this mission. As I begin my tenure, much of my focus will be on major incident preparedness, proactive policing, and community involvement.
In today’s world, being well prepared for catastrophe (both natural and man-made) must be a top priority. Although there is no way to identify every disaster scenario that may play out, Bountiful Police Department will be prepared to put forth an organized response to any circumstance that may threaten the safety and well-being of our citizens. Through quality training, proper equipment, and good working relations with surrounding public safety and community service agencies, we will strive to have the best possible system in place to handle major incidents.
The police department will also take a more proactive approach to policing. As Police Chief, one of my main goals is to develop a problem oriented policing program that is designed to deal with the root of problems, rather than react to their symptoms. We will also make a concerted effort to curb crime by utilizing crime analysis techniques. By collecting and analyzing data, we will be able to develop targeted patrol plans and provide information to citizens on ways they can reduce their chances of becoming victims.
Under my administration, the police department will also work towards improving public relations and becoming more involved in the community. We will attempt to foster a deeper commitment between the police department and the community by promoting Neighborhood Watch and other citizen involvement programs. We will also bring the department closer to the community by attending special events, disseminating information to the public about department activities, and publishing articles about crimes that affect our community.
As Bountiful City’s Police Chief, I know I have a big job ahead of me. I am dedicated to making the continual effort that is necessary to meet the changing and growing needs of our community. Identifying specific needs and creating practicable solutions will take time, effort, and commitment, not only by department employees, but also by members of the community. I am looking forward to working for, and with, the Community of Bountiful for many years to come.
Tom Ross,
Chief of Police
